1.Intact adult penis

In this illustration, you will find the average normal adult penis shown. You will see a covering on the head of the penis, also known as the glans. This covering is known as the prepuce or the foreskin.

The prepuce folds itself into two at the top of the penis and it is definitely not a useless part of the penis.

The length of the foreskin varies between individuals, and this is something shown in the figure.

After circumsision, you will find that this area of the skin, which would have at best measured about 3-5 inches go missing. This is something of a feature of penile reduction surgery, which all of you should know of.

Let us now tell you about the structure (make-up) of the penis

2. Structures of the penis

The foreskin layer visible to us, also known as the outer foreskin layer, actually continues as a skin from the shaft of the penis.
Some of you may take the inner foreskin layer to be a type of skin, which it is not. It is actually a tissue, which you wouldn’t find anywhere else in the body.
The ridged band is actually the connector between both these layers. During no erection, the ridged band tightens up to narrow the foreskin opening. At the time of erection, the ridged band forms ridges that run right down to the shaft of the penis.
The glans, or the head of the penis, slightly red or purple in colour, is probably considered to be the most sensitive of all parts of the penis.
Much similar to how you have an underside to the tongue, the penis has frenulum, which is the connecting membrane in the penis.
The foreskin has twelve known functions.

They are:

1.    Covers and bonds with the synechia allowing the mucosal surface of the glans and the inner foreskin to develop.
2.    Protects the glans of the infants from dirt and feces in the abrasion.
3.    Protects the glans penis from friction and abrasion all life.
4.    Moisturizes the glans
5.    Lubricates the glans.
6.    Coats the glans with a waxy protective substance.
7.    Ensures sufficient skin is provided while the penis is erect to prevent unfolding.
8.    Aids masturbation and foreplay.
9.    Aids better penetration.
10.  Reduces friction and chafing during intercourse.
11.  Supplies erogenous receptors.
12.  Makes contact and simulates the G-Spot of the female partner.

3: Erection process: Intact penis

At the stage of being in a full retract position, you will find that the foreskin runs down deep in the penis, actually even covering up to half the length of the penis.

Note: There have been some cases reported when men have issues retracting their foreskin. It is not necessary here that such men should actually go in for circumsision. There are many alternative penis treatment techniques that help you in preserving the structure and the function of the penis.

Penile stimulation

While foreplay and the intercourse, something happens in your penis and penile area, by which you feel the actual erogenous simulation. These actually happen due to the senses from the foreskin, the glans and the frenar band. Each of these structures have their own sensations and all of these add up to the wonderful feeling of lovemaking.

Let us also tell you here that a certain amount of emotional excitement is required for a man to feel the ultimate feeling of pleasure.

The foreskin has an inner and outer layer, both of which play their part in triggering an erection in the penis. The outer foreskin normally contains preceptors which help it respond to the early stages of being aroused. You could in fact touch this part, and feel a strange sensation. The receptors of this structure are simulated further by stretching, which can either be done during intercourse or masturbation. (see `the gliding mechanism,' below).
Meissner corpuscles are the sensory receptors of the foreskin. This is a set of nerves much similar to the nerves at the tip of our fingers. But most importantly, these nerves help us enjoy the sex act to the ultimate deal and also ensure that you don’t ejaculate prematurely.
The frenulum and the ridged band, known to have many ridges have to be aroused to give you the long-standing feeling of arousal. In fact, orgasms from an intercourse or masturbation are said to come up from sensations these structures give.

Dr. George Denniston writes:

The ridged bands somewhat look like a horseshoe with the only difference that they curve underneath! About 20 ridged bands rub over the corona, with each ridge having the Meissner’s corpuscles. These respond when pressure is applied. And thus, they are responsible for producing the ultimate pleasure during arousal. In fact, this feeling is such that it just can’t be taken away from people.
When your penis penetrates deep and by which time, your emotions actually run quite high, the simulation of glans helps providing longevity to the sex act. Thus, glans simulation is known to aid the quality of the sex act. Just so you know – On their own, simulating the glans helps in triggering the orgasm.

4. Circumcised adult penis

Circumcision ensures that the foreskin of the penis has been taken away from the penis, which means all the benefits you could have got from this structure are no longer applicable.

The surface of the glans would now have a thick and a dry layer of keratin.

This allows your penis to be less sensitive to unwanted simulations, but it also reduces the arousal from lovemaking.

5. The circumcised penis: Erect state

Circumcision does have its list of demerits, one amongst them is the presence of an annular scar, right down the shaft.

People who have been circumcised have also complained that their erections are rather painful.

And so, the list of complaints about circumcision go on.

The gliding mechanism

The gliding mechanism is probably an important thing to understand considering the dynamics of the penis during intercourse. The loose skin of the penis does the sliding function up to and back from the shaft of the penis.

In doing so, it simulates the glans and the foreskin, bringing into play the sensitive receptors.

During the outstroke, the foreskin partially or completely engulfs the glans.

With the gliding mechanism in play, you dont have to worry about using any artificial lubricants. With this mechanism, much of loose part of the penis is still inside the vagina, and coupled with the reactions in the vagina, it makes up for a wonderful sexual experience indeed.

The prepuce is a highly innervated and vascularized genital structure. This structure lines up with the peripenic muscle sheet.

The inner preputial surface has ecoptic glans that are sebaceous and help in producing lubricants that are considered so necessary for the best sexual function.

The triggers for a good orgasm are often found in the frenulum and the orifice of the preputial structure. The prepuce on unfolding is large enough to cover the entire of the erect penis. This also allows it to act as a natural sheath, enabling the shaft to glide during coitus.
